The French Furniture Process Panel Group (UIPP) brings together manufacturers of so-called “process” panels, namely particle boards, MDF fiber boards and OSB. The sites come from national companies and subsidiaries of European groups. This sector, which falls under heavy industry with continuous activity in 5/08, produces around 5 Mm3 of panels per year for an annual consumption of around 4 M tonnes of wood. Process panels are marketed almost equally for furniture manufacturing and construction. They are also used for industrial packaging and DIY. The process panels use a renewable raw material, “pulp” wood, while respecting the wood value chain, and the sites operate in a circular loop through the use of their co-products in the manufacturing process.
